Allie’s Nantucket Birthday Weekend Part 2

The following morning we had a hearty breakfast and retold war stories from the previous evening, then piled into a great old van outfitted with beach chairs as seats and headed off to Sanford Farm for a long walk and maybe a skinny dip! Saturday afternoon we beached it again then headed to Cisco Brewery for refreshments and live music. After a quick change we headed off to Straight Wharf before we capped off our night at The Chicken Box or more affectionately known as The Box. If those walls could only talk – the stories they would tell!!!

Breakfast was a big egg frittata, Mexican style, using potato, grilled onions, peppers and steak leftovers from the night before plus black beans, cheese and cilantro for good measure. We served this Mexican frittata up with salsa, guacamole and yogurt (surprisingly refreshing and healthy alternative to sour cream). The perfect fuel for our Sanford Farm walk.
Sanford Farm is my favorite place to walk or run on Nantucket. Sanford boasts gorgeous vistas of ocean and ponds, grasslands and ram pastures and is a welcome respite from the bustling town and its crowds. There are three popular trails of varying lengths. In need of a long walk, we chose the longest 6 mile trail.

Detox to retox- we headed to Cisco Brewery for cocktails, beer and live music- in moderation of course!

Jack groovin’ away!

Sunday was a good for the soul kinda day. Allie, Remi and I spent most of the morning in the garden with their Grandfather, Mr. Victory Garden himself. We got a full on garden tour and helped capture the pesky Colorado beetles that attempt to devour Papa’s delicious plants. Allie and I can’t wait to start our own garden some day and had a million questions on what it takes to plant a successful New England garden. We both have been gardening since we were little, me with my grandmother and parents and Allie with her mom and grandfather, so it make sense that we’ve got the gardening bug!

A weekend I will not soon forget. Birthdays give you the opportunity to be contemplative. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by such amazing friends that I like to call family. Happy 23rd Al, it’s goin’ to be a great year! xx
A few of my favorite places on Nantucket from Allie’s birthday weekend:
Bartlett’s Farm – oldest and largest family owned farm offering locally grown fruits and veggies, wine, cheese, baked goods, flowers, you name it! One stop shopping. A must visit on any trip to Nantucket
East Coast Seafood aka “167”- we picked up shrimp and fish for the weekend. 167 Hummock Pond Rd, Nantucket, MA 02554.
Cisco Brewery – Cisco Brewers is a brewery, distillery and winery on Nantucket and the sole brewer on the island. The Brewery is the perfect end of the beach day kind of place to grab a beer or cocktail, and listen to live music. You’ll pretty much be guaranteed to bump into long lost friends! Don’t forget to bring your ID – they are quite strict! (Cisco Whale’s Tale Pale Ale Beer last seen in this New England Lobster Roll Recipe post)
Something Natural – for sandwiches to take to the beach and Matt Fe Tea.
Straight Wharf – located near Hyline Ferry which is pretty handy. Straight Wharf is a special spot for lunch or dinner. Active and fun bar scene at night and open until 1 pm.
The Chicken Box – if you’re in your 20s (or any age for that matter) and you haven’t been to The Box, you haven’t experienced Nantucket after dark! The Box is the perfect place to end the night on Nantucket. Be ready to come home with dirty “Box” feet and lots of stories. Great live music.
Cru Nantucket – Favorite place for Oysters and spicy Bloody’s. Waterfront views.
Downyflake Doughnuts – homemade doughnuts, need I say more?!

Kat and Allie’s favorite beaches: Madequecham, Steps, Fishermans and Great Point for a cookout.

P.S. checkout my Memorial Day Nantucket post for a few other favorite spots, and if you missed my last post on Nantucket, you can find it here!
