Nantucket Memorial Day Weekend Snaps

Last weekend I headed to Nantucket with a bunch of girlfriends for Memorial Day Weekend and Figawi festivities. While most of the island young’ens were partying in town, we mostly hunkered down for a much needed relaxing weekend in Polpis. Instead of hitting lots of bars and restaurants, we enjoyed delicious dinners at home with all generations represented, drank lots of rose, and reminisced until the wee hours. There is nothing quite like being together with your childhood best friends and families!

We arrived on Friday morning by ferry from Hyannis and as soon as we were close to Brandt Point Lighthouse we scurried out on deck to see Kat’s house where her brother and friends were waving to us. If you look closely, you can spy the boys hootin’ and hollerin’ on the upper porch. It’s tradition for friends and family to be greeted by members of the Springs upon entering and leaving Nantucket!
Nantucket Looms
After a beautiful long run along Nantucket’s bike paths, we spent Friday afternoon shopping in town. First stop – Nantucket Looms to stock up on a few summer staple sweaters!

Saturday was filled with party and bar hoppin’! Tucker Blair hosted an awesome beach party at Jetties, packed with friends, an endless supply of beer and a perfect place to watch the Figawi races finish! Figawi race kicks of the Cape Cod and Nantucket race season with over 240 boats and a few thousand sailors.
The word Figawi supposedly comes from drunken sailors with a New England accent landing on Nantucket and asking the question, “Where the fuc* are we?”… Hence on Nantucket during Figawi weekend, it is likely you will hear groups of tipsy visitors and sailors shouting, “Where the Figawi?”
If that doesn’t give you a taste of what this weekend is like, I don’t know what will.
Good ole’ New England charm!

I am toting my favorite seashell summer clutch ever. Never ending compliments on this baby and matches literally everything!
After the races finished we greeted the sailors in Nantucket Harbor and grabbed drinks at a very packed Cru. The rest of the evening was filled with bar hopping and an awesome dinner party at a friends house, where my camera was safely tucked away.

Sunday morning was a blissful recovery beach day. We all piled into the Jeep, stocked up on delicious sandwiches and all the trimmin’s at Provisions and made our way to Madequecham Beach.

Teddy was particularly fond of my The Other Turkey sandwich. Turkey, avocado, bacon, pickled shallots, horseradish mayo & arugula on herb. I really don’t blame him, it was divine.

Jack took these photos of his Grandfather (Papa Russ) in his beautiful garden and the newly blossomed Clematis Montana Flowers.
If you haven’t checked out Jack’s photography, you must do so immediately! I am constantly checking his site for new incredible photographs.

After our Garden tour it was onto appetizers and dinner.  Chef Marion (Grammy) prepared the most deliciously sweet crab claws — some of the best seafood I have ever tasted. We dunked the claws into spicy cocktail sauce and washed them down with cold, dry rose. I still can’t stop thinking about them.

Sisters, brothers, cousins, friends — all the same! It seems to be rare these days when this many of us are together as we are normally dotted throughout the country or abroad. We were still missing a few siblings (5 to be exact) and can’t wait for the next time we will all be reunited!

Our final morning was a cozy, rainy day spent with coffee, scones and good books. Scones lovingly made by Sophie.
