L’Auberge Del Mar

California- still dreaming. Just returned from a five day stay in Southern California. This is the first time I was able to leave work behind for quite some time and boy did I need a break!
The sole purpose of my trip was to be with family and friends. We kicked off the weekend with celebrations for my cousin Electra’s birthday with a big surprise bash thrown by her husband Andy at L’Auberge Del Mar in Del Mar, California. He pulled out all the stops. All night long the cocktails flowed, swishy appetizers were passed, a gospel choir serenaded Electra, cake was eaten and a taco bar sobered us all up in the wee hours of the night.
I wore a cashmere crochet, gold pleated Iisli dress that has been stored in the depths of my closet and was waiting for the perfect occasion to make its debut.

We feasted on crab cakes, the most deliciously spongy Asian pork buns, and lobster BLT’s. More appetizers followed.

Mom washed the food down with deadly but delicious Lemon Drop Martinis.

Can you tell she was enjoying it?

The sun showed off for us and set just as Electra came in to be surprised by all of her family and friends.

Warm fires, cushy seating and beautiful lighting kept us cozy all night long

The birthday girl was then surprised when the most amazing gospel choir serenaded her with some of her favorite songs.

Before we knew it, Electra was dawning robes and got down with the choir, just where she belonged.

More very happy cousins!

My aunt and Grandfather, the most charming man at the party, of course.

With all the dancing and singing we worked up an appetite and feasted on a SoCal taco bar. Grouper, Pork, Steak, you name it and it was there.

I enjoyed my fish taco by the fire surrounded by the best cousins a girl could ask for

It was soon time to retire to our rooms, water in hand! What a night!
